1. How much space is required to install the opener?

Ceiling length and vertical height (headroom) are determined by the Genie® operator you choose. Headroom is defined as the number of inches above the highest point of the door’s path of travel, as follows:

2. What do I need to check before starting to install the opener?

Before attempting installation, throughly read the owner's manual. Thoroughly inspect the mounting area to be sure it is adequate to safely install the opener you have selected. Also confirm the availability of a 110-volt grounded outlet. Be sure to wear protective gear such as safety glasses and follow all precautions regarding electrical and ladder safety. The pre-installation checklist includes:

  • Check door condition and thickness
  • Check door alignment and balance
  • Confirm door height
  • Measure door header
  • Select power head mounting area
  • Confirm the grounded power source
  • Select bracket locations
  • Gather tools required
  • Remove door locks
