  2. Can I cut the rails?
  3. What is the thin black wire that hangs from the power head?

1. Are installation manuals available online?

Yes. View the list of owner's manuals available as downloadable PDF files.

2. Can I cut the rails?

Yes, if necessary to work around structural obstructions in the garage. However, when you cut the rails, you also reduce the distance that the door is raised. For every inch cut, an inch of door travel is lost. Your local Genie® dealer can help you determine the best approach to installing around obstructions.

If you must cut the rails, the Genie® Chain Glide® and Screw Drive have the easiest rails to cut. All that is needed is to measure and cut off the appropriate length of rail, then drill an appropriately sized attachment hole in the rail. Belt and chain systems are more difficult to handle in this regards, because changing the rail length requires retensioning the belt or removing chain links and re-assembling. Contact Genie® Customer Service (800) 35-GENIE for detailed instructions.

3. What is the thin, black wire that hangs from the power head?

It is the radio antenna. The antenna is required for proper operation of remote controllers. For the best range, make sure that the antenna hangs straight down from the power head.
