SAFETY FIRST PRE-1993 OPENERS SHOULD BE REPLACED - NOT REPAIRED MT. HOPE, OH – The Genie Company is committed to the highest standards of product safety. Genie has manufactured garage door openers since 1954 with a safety record that ranks as one of the best in the industry with many innovative product safety features over the years. In the early 1990s, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) enacted into law new rules ensuring that all garage door openers manufactured after 1992 had external entrapment protection devices, such as infrared sensors or sensing edges, in addition to the internal contact reverse mechanism. Garage door openers made prior to 1993 are safe and reliable if installed, tested, and maintained properly. However, the vast majority of these older units are not equipped with infrared sensors or other external entrapment protection devices, and thus do not meet today’s standard for garage door opener safety. To ensure the highest degree of safety and customer satisfaction, The Genie Company believe it is important that pre-1993 garage door openers are replaced, as opposed to being repaired. Therefore, effective July 1, 2013, The Genie Company will stop supporting the repair of all pre-1993 Genie garage door openers, including technical service support and the sale of replacement parts. We believe this decision will provide homeowners the latest safety technology with the added benefit of more security and convenience features. The Genie Company will not be responsible for warranty or liabilities incurred as a result of someone repairing a pre-1993 (non-infrared or safety sensing) garage door opener. Sponsor is not responsible for: (a) incorrect or inaccurate transcription of entry information, or late, lost, stolen, illegible, incomplete, misdirected entries, or entries received through impermissible or illegitimate channels, all of which will be disqualified; (b) miscommunications, technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to the malfunctioning of any telephone, computer, network, hardware or software; (c) the unavailability or inaccessibility of any website or service; (d) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Sweepstakes; (e) electronic or human error which may occur in the administration of the Sweepstakes or the processing of entries; (f) any injury or damage to persons or property, including but not limited to entrant’s computer, which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the Sweepstakes or from downloading any material from the Sponsor’s website, regardless of whether the material was prepared by Sponsor or a third party, and regardless of whether the material is connected to the website by a hypertext link; (g) any costs related to the prize, except as expressly set forth herein, including but not limited to income, sales, property and other taxes, fees and other costs incurred by accepting a prize; or (h) acts of God, acts of terrorism, civil disturbances, work stoppage, damage by third parties, whether negligently or intentionally, picketing, lockouts or other concerted actions by any employees of any labor organization, the laws or actions of any governmental authority, or any other event or cause that is beyond the control of Sponsor. AMENDMENT. Sponsor reserves the right to modify these rules for clarification purposes without materially affecting the terms and conditions of the Sweepstakes. INDEMNITY/RELEASE. SUPPLY CHAIN ETHICS Supply Chain Ethics Policy Disclosure for California Transparency in Supply Chains Act Overhead Door Corporation (and its divisions and subsidiaries, including GMI Holdings, Inc. d/b/a The Genie Company, collectively “Overhead Door”) strives to achieve and maintain high standards of corporate integrity and ethical behavior. Overhead Door expects that its suppliers will conduct their businesses not only in a lawful manner but also in compliance with the same high standards of integrity and ethics. Suppliers must not support, promote or engage in the practice of slavery or human trafficking, and Overhead Door expects suppliers to comply with the laws regarding slavery and human trafficking of the country or countries in which they do business. Overhead Door is currently developing a supplier code of conduct and compliance manual (“Code of Conduct”), to be issued to suppliers, setting forth and highlighting important legal, ethical, behavioral and other requirements. Overhead Door employees whose duties involve the Overhead Door supply chain will receive training on Overhead Door's Code of Conduct, including standards related to the prevention of slavery and human trafficking. Overhead Door employees will conduct announced inspections and audits of suppliers' places of business to ensure compliance with Overhead Door's Code of Conduct. These employees will be trained to recognize indicators of slave labor and human trafficking and will be required to report and document any potential violations of Overhead Door's Code of Conduct for further investigation. If a supplier is in violation of the Code of Conduct, the supplier will be required to promptly submit a corrective action plan, and Overhead Door will follow up to ensure efforts are made to correct the violations. Overhead Door will reserve the right to terminate any supplier found to be in violation of slavery and human trafficking laws. In a further effort to confirm compliance with the Code of Conduct, Overhead Door will require all suppliers to certify that the products sold to Overhead Door comply with the laws regarding slavery and human trafficking of the country or countries in which they are doing business. Suppliers shall be required to ensure compliance with the same standards by any subcontractors and sub-suppliers involved in the incorporation of materials into suppliers' products.
